Roleplay Characters

PostSubject: Thinking of Signing Up? (Q&A)   Fri Jan 18, 2013 10:37 am

What is
-It is a place where writers gather to write about what they want. Anything can be written on here, from an original poem to a fanfiction. This site is primarily dedicated to improving one's writing skill and learning how to appreciate other's writings. The site was originally founded on the concept of roleplaying, and making friends through sharing the storyline. We encourage everybody to participate in the roleplays to meet new people and encounter different styles of writing and genres. We are about broadening our horizons, one literary work at a time.

What is a roleplayer?
-A roleplayer is someone who pretends to be a character in a set storyline, called a roleplay. Roleplayers basically control the story through their characters, although someone sets the basic plot of the story beforehand. The plot can be anything- it can take place in a mystical land where dragons roam, or a futuristic world with robots. Everything a character does in a roleplay is accounted for and is part of the story. This is a place where you can put your creativity and writing skills to the test. It also tests your ability to pay attention to what others write and incorporating your character's personality in their reaction.
Character development plays a huge part on here. When writing a story, you must understand who the character is, where they come from, and why they act the way they do. If you can not describe your own character, then that leads to failure. Developing your character is a critical area in writing, and roleplaying is where that skill can be practiced.

What if I just want to write a story and not participate in any roleplays?
-Go for it- absolutely! There is a section for that. Independent works are encouraged so people can see what you can do on your own. Feedback is available for anyone to gives it in the literary discussion area. The entire point of this site is to become a better writer, so why not enjoy getting instant feedback from your friends?

Is there anything else to do on here besides roleplay and writing?
-Of course! There's off topic discussions, games, and a chatbox for those other things. It is encouraged to use the chatbox to communicate and meet new friends. However since the site is based on roleplaying and writing, You should be a roleplayer if you want to sign up, otherwise this may not be the forum for you.

Do I need any previous Roleplay Experience or writing experience in general?
-Of course not! You can learn the art of roleplaying on here, there are people who will be being to help you learn what to do. It's basically one long story everyone writes together, and everyone writes it from their character's perspective. You can also practice anything else you can come up.

Our goal is create better writers. We try hard to keep USARoleplayers a safe place for you and your friends.
