New Campaign Idea

I would like to get a darker / horror campaign going in the future but I feel the mood might not be understood as easily so I wish to undertake a transition campaign. Intrigue, violence, horror, discovery, and danger will be present themes but to a scale. The hopes of this discussion is to decide how far to go with certain themes along with input on a potential beginning horror themed adventure.

Let us start with the feel. I will give 3 sets of information, we’ll start with intense detailing of certain things. The next 2 will gradually decrease in those things stated above. I’ll then let you guys pick which one fits your level of comfort so I know how far to stretch the theme and atmosphere of the genre.

The maggot covered skull moved closer, it’s jaw opened slightly allowing the chunks of flesh and sinew it had just taken out of the doctors neck fall upon your lap. Still bound by blood stained shackles to the bed in the room that has been your prison for the last 6 months you squirm as best you can. Naked and cold; physically and mentally abused you’ve prayed for death. Now it has come; in the form of your darkest nightmares. The creature raises an arm, bearing no fingers but instead a bloodily implemented rusty scythe protruding from the cracked and splintered bone. With a sickening crunch the doctor comes in two, gore showering your exposed body. The creature moves closer, inches from your face it opens it’s mouth once again, a snake like tongue formed of gorged maggots exits from between it’s teeth. It brushes you on your cheek slightly, leaving a kiss of blood. Suddenly...

The creature moves closer, inches from your face it opens it’s mouth once again, a snake like tongue exits from between it’s teeth. It brushes you on your cheek slightly. Suddenly...




Now for my idea.

You awaken one day to a commotion in your cell. You where abducted one day from school / work at the young age of 14 - 23. For 6 months, you have been held as a prisoner in a strange facility being a test subject for tests. As the time passed the tests became more and more about fear, they would subjugate you to terrible things trying to figure out what caused a higher spike in your responses. You where broken, beaten and a host of other horrible things occurred until you where freed, by a creature of your darkest nightmare. It did not harm you for some reason, and over time you realized everything you had been suffering for was to create this monster. Using your darkest nightmare you escaped the manor where a variety of other horrific experiments were occurring. Now the thought of escaping the strangely quiet island and returning to your normal life seemed like the greater challenge, but guided by your dark savior maybe you can save yourself and figure out who made you suffer.

The idea is you make a character, I either give you a list of fears to pick a few from or you detail some of your own decisions and I give you your monster. Of course I will shoot you ideas so you get something you love and not something lame. I will control most the researchers and environments but you have total control of what you do, and what your new pets do to help you. The game will start from your escape from your cell. The escape from the manor.  Gathering clues and finding a way off the island.  Bringing down the people who did this too you. And finally then returning to your normal day life.

This game is expected to be more mystery and survival then combat. I got the plot ready and twists o plenty. Let me know if I have any interest. And if you have other ideas lets figure something out. I’m dying to run a darker themed game.

Here I'll be a nice person and respond:

I've been hoping for a survival based rp for a while anyway. Wonderful it's a gore one, but hey, different experiences are the ones that help you grow. Now I want to play Murder of the Orient Express lol

In terms of scale: #1 is written so beautifully I like it, but stamina wise, I think I could handle #2 better. So like a 1.5 maybe? or 1.75 Something like that?

I really was disgusted with #1, it was well-written but I couldn't do it. Somewhere in-between 2 and 3 would be my preference.

I'm not really interested in many "dark" or "horror" roleplays, but this one sparks my interest in particular. I will consider this one. Good idea.

Ok, so the thought of how a Monster is made is based on a list of fears provided from the Players main character. Their poor abducted human. For an example of this process It may go like this.

List 5 fears if possible. Top of the list are more fear inducing than bottom.

For sake of this a few fears cannot be accomplished. I will try to make a list but stuff like heights are pretty impossible to make a monster from.

Size: This is to establish what size your creature you would like should be around. Their are benefits to larger and smaller creatures. Larger are more powerful but less able to help in small situations and easily noticeable. Also larger targets are usually first things targeted by enemies.

Small: About size of Dog / Wolf
Medium: About size of Human
Large: About the size of Horse / Gorilla / Shark
Massive: About the size of Elephant / T-rex


So heres and example of say a woman named Tracey. 18 college student.

Fears
1- Blindness (losing eyesight) (could also be considered fear of the dark but on deeper level)
2- Death
3- Exposed Bone and Blood
4- Shark
5- Syringes / Medical tools

Size: Large


Put that together and you get this behemoth of grotesque.

A creature with no eyes that works on sound and smell = blindness fear
A monster representing death = blood stained and ready for apparent murder
A beast with the fear of exposed blood and bone = bone on outside along with constant bleeding and blood trails
Sharks = shark type teeth and face, also ability to go aquatic but must walk along bottom. Not able to swim
Syringes and Medical tools turn into large blades


Let me know what you guys think. This may never take off as an rp but I may turn this into a horror book in the future for myself since I think the concept is odd and disturbing.

Somehow I think you found the pic and made the example character's fears from that.

But cool concept. It seems you developed it well.
Yes, heights don't work, but anything you got under your sleeve for "shock scenes"? Like a bathtub?

heh, I did have picture. It was a good one to illustrate how things went. For shock scares...


The top right mouth is what the faces look like inside when they pull their heads apart.
